Consultation Calls
Consultations calls are free, 15-minute phone calls to give us the chance for us to talk, get a feel for one another, and take care of basic administrative tasks to make sure we’re a good fit for one another. There is zero pressure or expectation to have to schedule a session after your consultation call. You can schedule a consultation call here.
Scheduling a Consultation Call
When you reach out to schedule a consultation call, you can choose if you’d like me to follow up via email or a phone call. Email is preferred because it allows us to schedule a a convenient time for me to call where you do have the time and privacy to chat.
I will offer you a handful of times over the next week that work for a call. If none of the times I offer work for you, just let me know if there are other days of the week or times of the day that work better for you and we can find an agreeable time!
When we schedule, I will ask you for the best phone number to reach you and plan to call you at the agreed upon time.
If you prefer a phone call follow up, that works great too! In your form you can let me know what times of day or days of the week work best for you to get a phone call. I will also leave a voicemail if I don’t get ahold of you, and will follow up via email. When we do connect we can either chat then, or schedule another time for me to call back that works better for you.
For couples therapy consultations, both of you need to be on the phone call. You can be in the same location or plan to patch the other into the phone call if you won’t be in the same location — whatever works best.
Please note that I have a firm no-texting policy as I don’t have a secure HIPAA texting platform. This is to protect your information and privacy.
During the Consultation Call
I will call you at our agreed upon time! Unless you request otherwise, I will start our call by asking about the boring stuff first: finances and scheduling. Addressing those right of the bat lets us know if we can even schedule an intake session, before getting into the nitty-gritty.
Finances
Insurance: I am currently paneled with all SelectHealth Plans except Medicaid and Medicare plans.
Superbills: If you would like to utilize your insurance benefits but are not with SelectHealth, I can provide you with a Superbill to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. With superbills, you pay the full session cost out of pocket ($165 individual; $185 couples), and then submit the Superbill to your insurance for reimbursement. It is up to your insurance provider how much they will reimburse. I always suggest reaching out to them directly to get an idea of what your cost will end up being.
Out of Pocket: You don’t have to go through insurance if you don’t want to! Out of pocket simply means you pay the full session cost, and that’s it.
Sliding Scale: I reserve a few spots on my schedule for sliding scale sessions for those with financial need. If you believe you may qualify, we can discuss it during our consultation call.
Scheduling
We will talk about what times of day or days of the week work best for your schedule and what corresponding openings I have in my schedule. I typically like to schedule clients on recurring appointment times because it helps with prioritizing therapy, and consistently attending sessions is vital to your progress when starting therapy. It also ensures that you do have a session scheduled without having to wait for a one-off opening, and takes the pressure off of having to find a new session time every few weeks. Trust me, a recurring session time is almost certainly in your best interest!
What brings you to therapy? What are you Looking for in a therapist?
If we are aligned on scheduling and finances, we’ll move to what brings you to therapy at this time. This is your chance to let me know what you’ve been struggling with, what you hope to gain from therapy, and what you are looking for in a therapist. I’ll ask you about any previous therapy experiences, what you like and don’t like in therapy or from a therapist, and if you have any questions about who I am, my experience, or my approach.
Schedule an intake session
From this point, if you want to schedule an intake session, we’ll set up a time! I’ll gather some information from you (email address, birth date, full name) and send you new client paperwork to fill out.
If you are still shopping around for a therapist, that’s okay too! I want you to choose the therapist you feel the best with. We can plan for a time for me to follow up with you, or you to follow up with me if you want to schedule.
What if we aren’t a good fit?
If there is anything you are looking for that I don’t offer, have experience with, or feel unqualified to treat, I will let you know up front. You deserve the very best treatment possible and realistic expectations of what I can offer. If what you are needing support with isn’t something I am able to do, I will point you in the direction of someone who can. Likewise, if our schedules don’t align or you’d like to go directly through an insurance I’m not paneled with, I’ll send you some great recommendations for a provider who can meet those needs!
Some questions I’ll ask you to make sure I’m sending the best referrals are: do you have a preference for your therapist’s age, gender, or any other identity trait? Do you prefer in person or virtual appointments? Is there a specific therapeutic approach or technique you’d like your therapist to be familiar with?
After the Consultation Call
Paperwork
The paperwork will take 15-20 minutes to complete, and must be completed at least 24 hours before your intake session. For couples therapy, both people with have their own set of paperwork to fill out. If you have any questions or concerns about the paperwork, send me an email and I’ll do my best to answer your questions.
Referrals
If you asked for referrals for another clinician, I will gather that information for you and do my very best to send them via email within 2 business days.
Consultation calls really are all about you, your needs, and making sure you are getting the best care possible! Whether you choose to work with me or ask for referrals for someone who better fits your needs and preferences, I am honored to be part of your therapy journey.
